Ukrainia aren’t your grandmother’s wedding dance band. Their music holds the old country passions, but their sound is clearly 21st century. Songs fuelled by the sweet breath of vodka are intense to the edge of mania. Their music will light your spirit, lift your body and transport you to another time in a surreal place – have your passports stamped, you are entering Ukrainia.

DakhaBrakha means “give/take” in the old Ukrainian language. Created in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art “DAKH” by the avant-garde theatre director – Vladyslav Troitskiy. Having experimented with Ukrainian folk music, the band has added rhythms of the surrounding world into their music, thus creating a bright, unique and unforgettable image. Ukrainian folk music and songs will surely benefit from the overtones of other music, cultures and styles. It will help to open up the potential of Ukrainian melodies and to bring it to the hearts and consciousness of the younger generation in Ukraine and the rest of the world as well.
