Attrition are an electronic music band, formed in Coventry, England in 1980 by goth Martin Bowes and Julia Niblock. The band emerged from the experimental post-punk scene of the early 1980s and, along with other groups such as Throbbing Gristle, Coil, Einstürzende Neubauten, and In the Nursery, greatly contributed to the development of industrial music in the UK
"English electronics genius Attrition were formed in 1982 in Coventry. With veteran Martin Bowes always on the helm, Attrition have been in uninterrupted existence through various incarnations ever since. One of the first bands to experiment with electronic sound and post-modern soundscapes under the umbrella of the punk rock rags, they have achieved legendary status and not without good reason.... RATIONAL YOUTH (Canada's 1st SynthPop Band)
Rational Youth was formed in 1981 in Montreal & is considered to be one of Canada's first synthpop groups. Their debut 7” release “Cite Phosphore / City Of Night” (a song that is in heavy rotation during TARG Toughen Up! Free-Play Sundays) paved the way in expanding Montreal’s local new wave scene into both the discos and clubs. In 1982 Cold War Night Life was issued as the first all-synth pop release in Canada and became one of the biggest selling Canadian independent LPs. Fast forward to 2016 - Rational Youth founder/Vocalist Tracy Howe (The Normals, Men Without Hats, Heaven Seventeen) & his wife Gaenor perform live as a duo. Rational Youth has never sounded better!
INDARRA (Toronto Electronic Dark World Music)
“Think Massive Attack does Dead Can Dance” - Soundscapes Magazine
The Basque word Indarra, among its many meanings, connotes both supernatural power and grace. Indarra is the latest project of Canadian chanteuse Sue Hutton (Rhea’s Obsession, Metropolis darkwave darlings who toured the US, supporting bands like The Damned, Clan of Xymox, Switchblade Symphony, with music known well for it’s multiple film and television productions).
Hutton’s hypnotic vocals, rooted in Celtic and Bulgarian modes sustain and soar, evoking sweeping emotions to weave a sonic tapestry, one both timeless and of today. The songs of Indarra are of the earth and the sky, the past and the future, and, as was said of Hutton’s chart-topping and critically acclaimed project Rhea’s Obsession, sound as if two worlds were dancing.
Together, Sue and the Indarra collective draw on their extensive and varied influences to conjure sensual dreamscapes of sound linked by footpaths of groove. Unique collaborations on Walk on Fire highlight messages of social change bringing depth to featured songs with spoken word guests: prison reform voice Shandel Shand, disability activists Peter Park and Mika Hjorngaard.
Indarra 's debut recording Walk On Fire, is distributed internationally on Metropolis Records, released November, 2018.
