Disco was born in the underground, nurtured by Black, Latino, and queer communities in early gay clubs where music, movement, and freedom reigned. Then came Studio 54. Opening in 1977, it followed the lead of those pioneering spaces and created revolutionary, theatrical space and dancefloor where people could fully be themselves and everyone was celebrated...drag queens, musicians, royals, socialites, celebrities, politicians, and outcasts collided in a glittering, rule-breaking utopia. Once inside, it didn’t matter who you were, only how you shined. This event pays homage to that magical mix of glamour and rebellion with iconic drag performances, a future-forward disco DJ set, and a floor where everyone is welcome. Sequins encouraged. Glitter mandatory.✨
After this golden era of nightlife and expression, disco’s popularity declined amid a wave of cultural backlash, epitomized by the “Disco Sucks” movement, reaked of racism and homophobia, and marked a step backward, plus the AIDS crisis that followed devastated many of the very communities that had shaped the disco movement.
In 2025, we honour the resilience behind the sparkle. This party is a tribute, not just to the music, but to the freedom, euphoria, and radical togetherness that disco represented. In a time when the world feels heavy, we dance to remember, and we glitter to resist. ✨
