THE RILEY TAYLOR MEMORIAL AWARD
When this fund was first established in 2022, there was one award—the Riley Taylor Memorial Award—to support a student continuing in the Bachelor of Music Program. Through the collective generosity of our donor community, an additional award was established in 2026—the Riley Taylor Memorial Entrance Award. This award will support incoming undergraduate students entering the Bachelor of Music Program as they start their academic journey at Carleton University.

HOWARD JIAN
2026 RILEY TAYLOR MEMORIAL AWARD RECIPIENT
Howard Jian is an up-and-coming jazz/fusion drummer from Ottawa. With roots in extreme metal, he spent much of his time in high school playing metal gigs around Ottawa. Now he studies jazz at Carleton university, and is proud to present his new fusion quintet featuring past and present Carleton musicians.

RAYAN MIR
Inaugural Riley Taylor Entrance Award Recipient
Rayan is a young guitarist born and raised in Ottawa, Ontario. Having played in a variety of jazz bands, classical ensembles, pop groups, and rock bands over the years Rayan’s music tastes transcend genre. As a solo musician, Rayan takes to the stage with only his acoustic guitar, performing a variety of beautifully emotional instrumental pieces. Rayan’s unique approach to the acoustic guitar has been described by mentors and audiences as piano-like and introspective.
