CENTURY PALM (Toronto, ON)
Remember that delightfully catchy distillation of Devo & The Dickies that went by the name The Zebrassieres? This is the new band from Andrew Payne who was the guitar player and main vocalist. He left Ottawa for Toronto a little while ago and hooked up with some people from Ketamines and some other pals and kept the hits coming. Century Palm tread a bit slower and dare I say darker path than Zebrassieres but the catchy songwriting and vocal lines remain entrenched in deep grooves in the path.
VOICEMAIL (Ottawa, ON)
Voicemail have been around for 2 and a half years now and constantly pull out some new tricks out their sleeves. Comprised of members of The White Wires, Mother's Children & Average Times who started out by giving nods to the Northern Irish punk scene of the late 70's is now head banging to some glam, stomping to some street rock while keeping the melodies and riffs of their earlier influences on tight lockdown but without being afraid of covering the Stones or ELO if the mood strikes.
